AFP Offers Employment for OFWs
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Public Affairs Chief Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres has declared that their agency can offer employment to an estimated 12,000 OFWs who recently lost their jobs because of the global financial crisis.
This AFP program is in compliance with the Executive Order 782, which requires all government agencies to allot 15 % of their 2009 budget to extend assistance to affected OFWs registered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). This 15% of 2009 AFP’s budget for operating expenses will amount to P195 million according to Torres.
He added that at “At Php 8,000 per month (salary) for six months, the AFP may hire 12,188 persons.”
AFP is currently examining its various military units all over the country to determine the number of temporary personnel they can hire and what positions they can give them.
Hiring is set to start in June of this year.
Some of the jobs they can give are the following:
- Auto Mechanics
- Construction Workers
- Nurses
- Psychologists
- Clerks
- Computer Operators
- Data Encoders
