Summer in the Philippines is not as intense as the summer in the Middle East. Filipinos in this part of the world certainly knows this. The bad thing is – summer is just starting.
While some of us work in offices where intense heat is not much of a big issue, many of our kabayans don’t experience the same thing. Many of our kababayans are working as outdoor workers in construction sites, workshops and maintenance fields.
Working under this intense heat should be dealt cautiously. Those working under the sun are advised to drink plenty of water and avoid staying in direct sunlight for long hours.
In Riyadh, as the summer temperature rise, building contractors are giving workers a three-hour break in the afternoon when the heat is at its highest.
The move will not affect productivity though as it will be made up later in the day when it is cooler. The three-hour break in the afternoon is from 12NN to 3PM. Some contractors are even working at night.
The possibility of companies reducing salaries can’t be ruled out but it will only be a temporary step until the weather gets cooler.
