As an OFW working here in Kuwait, I have heard about Kuwaitization but it doesn’t bother me so much because first of all, the Kuwaitization program hasn’t extended to national degree and only involves some big companies. Secondly, I know for sure that Kuwait will not survive without the foreign expatriates including Filipinos. Leaving them on their own to sustain their economy will be a disaster.

When Blas Ople was then the Labor Secretary in the 1970s, the idea of deploying Filipino workers to the Middle East was just a temporary solution to the unemployment problem in the country. But what was once a temporary solution has become a permanent policy for the government. What does this strategy imply? How does this policy affect all of us Filipinos? Is the government relying too much on the deployment of Filipino workers abroad to make the economy stable? Is this all they can do as leaders of the country?

Foreign students still believe that quality education can still be attained in Philippines and I fully agree with that. But what hurts me most is that more and more employers are starting to doubt the academic credentials of Filipinos, and even foreign students who studied in Philippines. Why?
