Despite the brutal killing of two Filipinas last July, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has identified Kuwait as one of the 10 countries that protects the rights and welfare of migrant workers. The other countries identified are Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Laos, Myanmar, Ireland, Saipan, Norway, Syria and Vietnam.

The End of Sponsorship System in Kuwait

Kuwait will be the second Middle Eastern country after Bahrain to end the sponsorship system or locally called kafeel. Last 2009, Bahrain abolished the sponsorship system of its foreign workers which was likened to “modern-day slavery.”
