Discipline, English language proficiency and adaptability – these are the three major reasons why the country of Norway prefers Filipino workers over Indians and Pakistanis.

The country of Norway is now welcoming Filipino workers in the field of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering. They are offering monthly salaries ranging from  $5,000 to $7,000 or around P250,000 to P350,000.

Norway boasts of stunning and dramatic scenery and landscape. The west coast of southern Norway and the coast of North Norway are among the most impressive coastlines anywhere in the world. Norway comprises the western part of Scandinavia in Northern Europe. The rugged coastline, broken by huge fjords and thousands of islands, stretches over 2,500 km and over 83,000 km including the fjords and islands. Norway shares a 2,542 km land border with Sweden, Finland, and a short border line to Russia at the east.

Norway ranks among the wealthiest countries in the world. It is the world’s fourth largest oil exporter and also has rich resources of gas fields, hydropower, fish, forests, and minerals. Other main industries include shipping, food processing, shipbuilding, metals, chemicals, mining, fishing and pulp and paper products.

According to statistics, there are approximately 19,291 OFWs in Norway.

Labor Secretary Marianito Roque also said that Filipino engineers are also needed in Qatar. Approximately 125,000 engineers, information technology experts and other workers for construction and oil & gas fields are required.

Because of the huge demand for technical experts being foreseen in the upcoming years anywhere in the world, Roque is encouraging Filipino youths to take up technical courses like engineering. We were only able to supply 26,000 workers to Qatar so far “because we don’t have enough engineering graduates to qualify for the jobs,” Roque added. There are currently 200,000 OFWs working in Qatar.
