Because of the alleged electoral fraud in the 2009 Iranian presidential elections, violent protests and tensions have continued particularly in Tehran. The Philippine government thru the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Tehran issued an advisory to all Filipinos in Iran to take precautionary measures at home and at work.
Aside from taking safety precautions, Filipinos should also make themselves accessible at all times and maintain communication with the Philippine Embassy.
The Philippine Embassy in Tehran, meanwhile, is ready and prepared to activate and carry out its contingency plan – when necessary. DFA, however, maintained that there is still no need to evacuate Filipinos living there, at the moment.
There are approximately 1,500 Filipinos living in Tehran.
