A MOU or Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between the government of Philippines and South Korea. The pact, which was signed by Labor Secretary of the Philippines Marianito Roque and Korean Labor Minister Lee Young-Hee, might provide jobs for some 8,000 Filipinos in South Korea every year for the next three years.
The MOU, which was signed at the Blue House, was witnessed by the leaders of two countries, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and South Korea’s President Lee Myung-Bak.
The new MOU is in view of the appreciation of the government of Korea to the contribution of the Filipino workers in their society. Because of the positive comments on OFWs in Korea, the original contract term which was only for two years was extended to three years.
According to Roque, under the MOU, Filipinos will be hired in the manufacturing industry and other business sectors in South Korea.
