spain thumb More Job Opportunities for Health Care Workers in Spain

Part of the RP-Spain Memorandum of Understanding on Migration Flows, which was signed in June 2006, is the deployment of Filipino health workers in Spain. So more opportunities of employment for the healthcare industry in Spain are to be expected by Filipinos.

Recently, the first batch of nurses were sent to the northern part of Spain in the Basque country.

These nurses, under the agreement, will initially work as nursing assistants and caregivers in Basque homes for the elderly and they will have a one-year renewable contract.

The Spanish Ministry of Education will then evaluate the nursing degrees for six to nine months for accreditation purposes. After official accreditation, the nurses can start practicing their profession and will earn the same salary as regular Spanish nurses.

“The demand for foreign nurses remain high,” according to DFA. The Philippine Embassy is currently looking for additional prospective Spanish employers who could employ more Filipinos in the health sector.

There are about 190 Filipino nurses working in the Madrid area according to DFA.
