Good news for Filipino job hunters – the transfer of US military bases from Okinawa, Japan to the island of Guam would create 15,000 job vacancies.

This is according to Philippine Overseas Employment Administration or POEA. The transfer, which will cost about $10.3 billion, will create potential job opportunities for Filipinos because Guam does not have enough people and will be needing foreign workers.

The US government, according to POEA Chief Jennifer Manalili, had recently declared that there should be no placement fee in the recruitment of foreign workers. Recruitment though has not started and POEA will make announcements in the appropriate time.

According to statistics, a total of 22,567 Filipinos had worked and resided in Guam. For this relocation project, Guam is willing to pay $11 per hour or about $2,200 per month equivalent.
