According to a local manufacturers’ group, buying Filipino products could in the future stop the deployment of Overseas Filipino Workers or OFW.

The Buy Pinoy, Buy Local campaign, which is a joint advocacy of the FPI and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc., aims to encourage Filipinos to patronage Filipino-made products, whether it is a foreign brand, made from imported raw materials, or owned by foreigners, just as long as it was made by Filipino workers.

According to Jesus Aranza, president of the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI), the campaign has its long term benefits for Philippines.

• It can help in avoiding smuggling.

• It will attract more investors because they can be guaranteed that Filipino-made products will be bought by Filipinos because it was made in the country.

• For Filipinos staying and working abroad, patronizing Filipino products is a way of helping Filipinos in Philippines.

• It will entice domestic manufacturers to increase their capacities, which will subsequently result in more employment.

• Creation of local jobs would allow OFWs to stay home for good.

• It could help decrease the number of broken families and improve family ties more.
